How Sofrecom optimized its operations management with a Business Management solution built on Triskell
Managing the profitability of a consulting, engineering, and telecom services company like Sofrecom is crucial to precisely identify which projects are profitable and which are not. However, this task becomes complex, if not impossible, when the tracking of numerous processes and operations is done with… Excel.
This was the realization of the IT & Network BU at Sofrecom. Consequently, they equipped themselves with a Business Management Solution implemented with Triskell Software.

About SOFRECOM
A subsidiary of the Orange Group, Sofrecom is a consulting and engineering firm specializing in telecommunications. Sofrecom advises and supports the development and digital transformation of the main players in the telecommunications sector: operators, governments, and regulators in more than 100 countries.
Context
At the time of the merger of the IT and Network BUs at the end of 2018, Sofrecom’s management made a simple observation: the increase in the number of projects and resources had significantly complicated the management of the new department.
They lacked visibility over all the ongoing projects with their clients. Indeed, each operations director managed their own projects using the tool of their choice, generally MS Project or Excel. The manual collection and consolidation of information inevitably led to a colossal waste of time and unreliable data.
To address this situation, a decision was made to define a common methodology and tools for everyone and to centralize information within a single tool.
Why Triskell?
To address this priority, Xavier Christophe, Director of Operations, sought a solution to equip the ITN service business management at Sofrecom.
- SaaS solution: providing the tool in SaaS mode was imperative for international deployment.
- Scalability: Triskell's flexibility allows the solution to evolve autonomously without calling on the publisher.
- Expertise: the expertise and pragmatism of Triskell's teams and their partner Easis reassured Sofrecom's teams.
- Costs: competitive licensing and deployment costs were a key factor.
Implementing the Triskell Solution
Multi-portfolio Business Management
The initial production launch of Triskell, carried out with the help of the consulting firm Easis in 2020, focused on the operational monitoring of won projects in a very traditional manner. Operations directors were provided with a basic set of functionalities, which they used depending on the maturity and type of project to be managed:
- Resource tracking: future costs & past costs.
- Expense tracking: future costs & past costs.
- Revenue.
- Deliverables planning.
- Risk matrix…
Since then, the solution has evolved significantly. Completely autonomous in the tool’s administration, the Triskell administrator adds a new portfolio each year. Two new entities, the consulting BU and the international commercial directorate, have also joined the initiative!
Today, business management revolves around three main themed portfolios: Customer Portfolio, Supplier Portfolio, and Activity Portfolio. The Activity Portfolio is divided into sub-portfolios by BU, itself divided into four sub-portfolios:
- Ambition: the sales target set for the commercial teams.
- Pre-sales: the ambitions become pre-sales.
- Business: once validated, pre-sales become business and thus projects to be managed.
- Budget: Annual budget tracking.
Dashboards and Reports
The portfolio architecture allows for generating common dashboards for BU directors. These reports are used, for example, during monthly budget reviews, with key KPIs such as the Win-Ratio.
Benefits – Improved Visibility
- Better access to data: Sofrecom now has a single repository for all its business management, from defining sales targets to delivering projects to clients.
- Data reliability: No more obsolete data spread across dozens of Excel files or other applications. No more consolidation errors either. Centralizing data in a single repository guarantees information reliability. This adds real value for tracking project profitability in real-time and ensuring margins, for example.
- Perfectly adapted solution: Since its initial implementation, Triskell continues to evolve to best meet the functional needs of field teams and the reporting needs of management.
The big advantage of Triskell is its ease of administration. We can evolve the solution independently. It is essential to be able to respond exactly to our needs.
